Topic: China Shipping Mitigation Funds

July 23, 2002

Councilwoman Janice Hahn
City of Los Angeles
638 S. Beacon St.
San Pedro, CA 90731

Dear Janice,

Enclosed is a copy of the proposal submitted for China Shipping Mitigation Funds by the Northwest San Pedro Neighborhood Council.  The proposal seeks to beautify the areas surrounding the China Shipping Terminal through landscaping and public art and by creating bike paths and open space.  This is the first view of the water most visitors see, which currently is primarily vacant lots, dilapidated buildings and utility poles and wires.  This proposal will compliment the efforts that we have been pursuing with your office to improve North Gaffey Street and it will in essence extend the Bridge to Breakwater project by connecting it to North Gaffey.  Since much of this project involves land owned by the port, nexus to the port should not be an issue.

We are very excited by this proposal and hope you can meet with a few of us to discuss it further.

Sincerely,

John Greenwood
President
