Topic: North Gaffey Streetscape ImprovementNorthwest San Pedro Neighborhood Council December 10, 2002 Councilwoman Janice Hahn Re: North Gaffey Streetscape Improvement Dear Councilwoman Hahn: The improvement and beautification of North Gaffey Street between the proposed Welcome Park and Anaheim Street (also known as Five Corners) is a high priority for the Northwest San Pedro Neighborhood Council. North Gaffey Street is a major entrance into San Pedro. In its current blighted condition, visitors entering our community receive a negative impression. Some of the problems include: I. Flooding during winter months I . Inconsistent or non-existent landscaping II . Unsightly, concrete flood channel III . Lack of curbing and sidewalks IV . Unsightly fencing V . Billboards The Northwest San Pedro Neighborhood Council has surveyed its 25,000 stakeholders on three separate occasions. Each time, the improvement of North Gaffey Street was identified as one of the top issues. We presented this plan to the Department of Public Works, Bureau of Engineering at the Neighborhood Council Budget Day held at the Convention Center on October 5, 2002. We understand that, as a result, the Bureau of Street Services si responding to an MTA Call for Projects to seek funding. The Northwest San Pedro Neighborhood Council strongly endorses the North Gaffey Streetscape Improvement Project and asks you to provide support.
