Verizon’s Proposed Antenna at 727 Capitol Dr.

Verizon has applied for a conditional use permit to install a 45’tall monopole stealthed as an operating parking standard with a 24’ parabolic antenna attached at 727 W. Capitol.  A public hearing will be conducted on Thursday, May 13 at 9:30 am at the San Pedro Municipal Building.  Verizon will provide more information at our meeting.

Amerigas

Letter sent to Harbor Commission asking for a 3 month extension of the Amerigas pipeline lease and berth assignment to give us time to properly prepare for and hold a community forum on this important issue.  John will attend the BOHC meeting on Wed to speak to this issue.

Date & location have not yet been selected for the forum, but we anticipate it will be in late June.  Attached is a preliminary list of questions and possible panelists for the forum.

We also anticipate asking different groups if they would like to be a co-sponsor of this forum such as Homeowners United and other home owners associations within NW boundaries, Taper Ave. PTA and the SPCOC.

Di’Carlos Bakery Property

With the closure of the bakery, this property will go on the market.  The Council Office is working on strategies for retaining the ball fields.  They have asked us for input regarding the community’s preference for how the remainder of the property is used.  This is private property currently zoned for industrial use.  Depending on what the buyer wants to do with the property a zoning change may be necessary, requiring public hearings.

Nearly 500 fliers were distributed in the immediate community inviting community members to speak at tonight’s meeting.  In addition, people were invited to submitted comments in writing or by e-mail up by May 14.

Capitol & Statler Dr.  Storm Drains

New, 6’ fencing will be installed min-June at both sites.  Following-up with Council office regarding landscaping.

Peck Park Master Plan

The Peck Park Canyon Steering Committee under LANI has selected the design firm of Mia Lehrer + Associates to assist the community in the preparation of a conceptual use plan for Peck Park Canyon.

Peck Park Fundraising Event

Ray is working on a fundraising event for Peck Park on Sat. June 13   with a concert and car show.  As part of the event, tours of the canyon will be given. Ray would like the Neighborhood Council to have an outreach table.

CERT Training

CERT Training regarding public safety responses was scheduled to begin last week, however only 6 of the 26 people registered showed up.  Unless sufficient people show up this week, the class will be cancelled.  This is a 7 week class held on Wednesdays from 6-9 pm at San Pedro City Hall.

CERT ( Community  Emergency Response Team) Training is conducted by the Fire Department to teach to how to protect yourself, your family, and your neighborhood in an emergency.  In a major disaster, our emergency services will be overwhelmed.  You need to be as self-sufficient as possible until help arrives.
