Summary: The Northwest San Pedro Neighborhood Council supports Council File 19-0229 referencing Fair Work Week LA, an effort to create stable and consistent scheduling for employees in businesses with more than 300 employees globally. We specifically support the language from Paragraph 6 of the Council Motion which describes the proposed ordinance: “.. a Fair Work Week ordinance that would require all retail businesses in Los Angeles with 300 or more employees globally, to provide workers with 14 days’ notice of their schedule, right to reset between shifts of 10hours, a good faith estimate of weekly work hours at time of hire including potential opportunities for full-time work and predictability pay, right to request schedule changes and ability to decline hours before and after scheduling posting and anti-retaliation protections for employees exercising their rights under the ordinance.” We support this ordinance in principal, although we wait to see final wording in City Attorney’s language which is being prepared following Council vote to accept Labor Committee input. That Council vote will be taken soon. We go on record as supporting the major tenets of the proposed ordinance.
