PROFILE:
Captain George Thompson
Raised in Los Angeles area, attended public schools here then on to
UCLA and BA in '52. Entered Navy in '53 served 30 years, 17 afloat mostly
in destroyers and carriers. Grad of Naval War College and received MA
in International Affairs and MS in Personnel Managment from George Washington
University while on active duty.
Returned to this area in 1978 as Prof of Naval Science (CO of NROTC)
at UCLA and retired from Navy in 1982. Worked for Olympics in 1984,
then started teaching in NJROTC units in high schools, first at Lakewood
High in Long Beach, then at Hueneme High in Oxnard UInified School District.
Retired from there in 1998 figured 45 years of employment were enough.
Now involved in schlepping for wife during school year, she is 25 year
teacher with LAUSD, and try to spend most of summer in travel in Caribbean
and Mexico. Also had 10 years involvement with Little League coaching
and have been working off and on with Top Sail program here in So Bay.
Fell in love with this area when I returned in '78 and lived in Navy
housing on 25th street moved on Barrywood in 1980 and still there. Eagerly
looking forward to a deeper involvement in South Bay community.
