POSITION ON ANIMAL SHELTERAt its meeting on August 12, 2002, the San Pedro Northwest Neighborhood Council heard a presentation from the Department of Animal Services about the possible locations for the new Animal Shelter. The Council voted the following prioritization of the sites: First Choice: Five Points Second Choice: Former Big C Third Choice: G and S Brothers Council Members are adamantly opposed to the G and S Brothers site. The primary reasons for this opposition are the number of employees who would be dislocated and its proximity to residences. In addition, in its current location G and S Brothers is seen as an asset to the community. In fact, all of the public comments were specifically in opposition to this site. The Five Points site is preferred over the former Big C site for the following reasons: a) It is more centrally located to serve the entire Harbor Area b) There are no residences close by c) Potential impact of the sirens from the fire station on the animals at the Big C site However, unlike the G and S Brothers site, the Big C site would be an acceptable alternative. ------------------------------------ Return to RESOLUTIONS.
