STATE BUDGET

WHEREAS, the Northwest San Pedro Neighborhood Council (NWSPNC) represents about 25,000 residents of the City of Los Angeles; and

WHEREAS, one of the purposes of the NWSPNC is to provide a mechanism to communicate with elected officials about community/neighborhood issues; and 

WHEREAS, the availability of revenue to the City of Los Angeles has a direct impact on the quality of life in our community including the availability of police officers and firefighters; and

WHEREAS, the City has already adopted its budget for 2003-04 which included significant cuts in city services; and

WHEREAS, the State is facing a significant fiscal crisis that must be addressed and some local government contribution may be necessary this year; and

WHEREAS, some proposals under consideration are not proportionate to the overall amount that cities receive from the state, thus shifting local taxpayer dollars to the state;

NOW THEREFOR, the Northwest San Pedro Neighborhood Council opposes any proposals by the Governor, Senate, or Assembly that would impose multi-year, disproportionate reductions in City revenue.
