WHEREAS, Y and S Auto has asked the Harbor Department for a permit to use Port land on North Gaffey Street for employee parking; and

WHEEREAS, Y and S Auto employs 120 people in our community and needs employee parking due to City plans for an animal shelter where employees now park; and

WHEREAS, Y and S has met with the Northwest San Pedro Neighborhood Council and provided information that assures us that their use will help beautify North Gaffey Street and not interfere with plans for a North Gaffey Street Beautification project, and

WHEREAS, substantial concern has been expressed that employees crossing Gaffey Street from the proposed parking lot to their work may be at risk due to the lack of a crosswalk at that location;

NOW THEREFOR, the Northwest San Pedro Neighborhood Council supports the grant of the revocable permit and urges the City and the Board of Harbor Commissioners to take such steps as may be prudent to protect the workers and drivers in that location from injury.
